A nationwide warning regarding the potential strangulation deaths of children due to blind cords has been issued. These deaths occur typically when small children inadvertently become entangled and subsequently strangle on the pull cords of window coverings. Such accidental deaths have been known to occur even when a child is left alone in a room for only a few brief moments. In addition to the horrible prospect of this type of accident occurring, there is also a very real concern involving insurance liability regarding the safey and well being of others.
Some of the largest window covering manufacturers in the country are working in close conjunction with the Canadian Consumer Product Safety Commission standards to provide "child-safe" blinds.
Although window covering specialists have an extensive knowledge on child proof blinds, big box stores often employ people with limited knowledge on the topic. Educate yourself for your own protection, and the well being of your children and others.
